Video Story 3: Sports Video and Video Story 4: In-Depth Profile Video

Sports and In Depth Profile

Length requirements are 1:30 to 2:30.
You may go over the 2:30 mark but your video must hold your viewers attention in a compelling way. Otherwise, you will lose points.

Each are worth 200 points.

Directions:

  1. Research your stories appropriately.
  2. Choose strong characters.
  3. Intro should capture the audience’s attention
  4. Make sure your story idea will provide you with compelling visuals.
  5. Shoot and edit a strong intro to grab your audience’s attention within the first ten seconds
  6. Longer videos that should be shorter, will hurt your grade.
  7. Interview one or more subjects. Vary your subject to camera distance. Consider using two cameras.
  8. Make sure you have visuals that compliment the audio.
  9. Log your footage.
  10. Cut your audio first. Remember, audio drives your story.
  11. Use title slides, credits and lower thirds where appropriate.
  12. You must include voice over in one of your four videos. Use it to advance the story.
  13. The interview should not dominate the piece.
  14. Weave B-Roll in and out of your video.
  15. Use cutaways to avoid jump cuts and to show us a visual narrative.
  16. Shoot lots of b-roll especially details.
  17. In most cases, your b-roll should have audio. Around -12 to -15db
  18. Your stories must show an obvious beginning, middle and end.
  19. Visit and shoot your subject on several occasions.
  20. Show your subject in different settings.
  21. Show relationships.
  22. Go behind the scenes.
  23. If you use music it must be neutral. In other words it should not alter the emotional message of the story. It must not be commercial. Resources: Bensound.com and https://mobygratis.com/.

Requirements:

  1. Put your videos on your blog before the due date.
  2. Use Youtube or Vimeo to host your video. Use that embed code in your assignment blog post.
  3. Choose a compelling thumbnail for your video as it will appear on your screen before you press play.
  4. Include a compelling title in the video and a headline in your blog post on the screen where your video resides.
  5. Include your credit at the end of your video.
  6. Write a 200-word short story adhering to AP Style and include it under your video.
  7. Write conversational 200-word essay about your experience and post under story.

Rubric:

  • Compelling video and audio
  • Technical quality of video and audio
  • Shoot over several visits and not just one or two shoots.
  • Would an online news organization publish your piece?
